When the architect who dreamed up and built the track at Martinsville was offered the job, he did not rack his brains for long over what configuration to give the corners or how long to make the straights. Grinning slyly, he pulled a paperclip out of a little cardboard box, laid it on a blank sheet of paper, traced around it with a pencil, and decided that this was exactly the track the glorious town of Martinsville deserved. The eventual race winner spent a long time in the shadow of his rivals. Even when he managed to lead the race for a single lap under caution, some of his competitors did not so much as notice. However, after 220 laps had gone by (no small share of them spent behind the pace car), a few began to realize what Tik was up to. And when he turned his plan into a brilliant victory, COT understood that he was far from the only one blessed with a sharp mind and quick wits.

«I lost 3rd gear at the start, and the restarts were no picnic.
I drove saving my tires, waiting for the long runs. Never got them. I rarely pitted. And whenever I found myself behind #98 Johny, it was sheer horror. He blocked constantly. I had good clean battles with everyone except him. I barely, just barely got past him. Then at the end of the race I broke through into 2nd place. Everyone headed for the pits, including Lich (#33 Alexander Schokin), but I stayed out, even though my left front tire was badly worn — I had to keep locking up the rubber to keep from getting into a wreck.
... Lich was pushing hard on fresh tires at the end of the race; good thing you are allowed to throw blocks on the last 10 laps, otherwise I would never have seen that victory. After the race I checked how many times Lich had pitted — turns out it was 9, while I only stopped 4 times.»
#113 Sergey Anti – 4th place.
«Super race. For some reason it was hard early on to hold the pace I had in practice, but by mid-race I had settled into 20.7s laps. I loved the battle with #98 Johny — he set up such a freight train, everyone stacked up behind him and lost positions. I figured the only way past him was on the inside, so in I went; I don't know, maybe I was even at fault, but our train couldn't handle running three-wide. And yes, the fighting got rough at times, trading paint side to side.
A shame that at the end I pitted for repairs, and on the restart I wanted to get past Johny right away so I wouldn't get stuck behind him later — and it turns out he had lost a gear. Basically, thanks to that, #74 Tik pulled away and kept Lich (#33 Alexander Schokin) behind at the finish.
My engine was already damaged by then, so I simply cruised home, watching their battle. A sea of fun, thanks everyone.»
#5 RacerX - 6th place.
"In the first half of the race I picked up a BF, and serving it turned out to be anything but simple because of the cautions. The moment I headed for pit lane, out came a yellow — and a BF is not cleared under caution, so that's a lap lost. Then, after serving the stop & go, I simply drove to the finish, managing my gap over the pursuers."
#01 Oliver Driver – 7th place.
"The race went pretty much to plan, and the plan was to let absolutely everyone by and wait for all the speed demons to wreck each other, since I never managed to find a setup that gave fast yet stable driving. The only disappointments were my own pace, a little, and the fact that I lost a lap changing tires. I also collected a heap of penalties for improper pit exits, because for a long while I couldn't work out what exactly I was being penalized for. But once all that settled down, it turned out I hadn't really lost much, since my main rivals had apparently been caught out by the same thing. I decided not to mess with pit stops anymore. I managed to slip past Moged and get a lap back, since I was slower and the pace car came out between us. When he launched his final attack, he apparently thought I would flinch out of his way, but no such luck. I had nothing left to lose anyway."
#13 Edd Mogilevich(Moged) – 8th place.
The setup wasn't quick, but it was stable (which didn't stop me from catching a couple of spins while trying to experiment) and it behaved well on the first laps after a restart.
Everything was going fine until Pab vanished somewhere and I got handed a BF, then 2 more BFs before I finally twigged how to exit the pits properly. 8 laps down and no chance of clawing it back
#46 Pab – 9th place.
Clumsy hands + an unlucky setup + an unexpectedly flimsy Saturday internet connection. For the first half of the race I managed to keep slipping away from Lich (#33 Alexander Schokin), and even got the hang of the tricky pit stop without losing a lap, but with my pace it couldn't last forever. The -1L figure appeared almost simultaneously with a disconnect. I rejoined the track 12 laps down. From there I just rode it home. The only comforting fact is that I kept the commandment "thou shalt not kill thy neighbour" 100%.
#229 Dima Andreev – 10th place.
«Sorry to everyone I got in the way of. A difficult track for me. Toward the end I seemed to find my rhythm — and then such an annoying mistake. Pab, sorry about the dented rear end.»
#95 Alex madlopt – 11th place.
«The engine died on my way into the pits.
Eugeny Dmitriev, when I hit you I had locked my brakes and there was nothing I could do — the car had become uncontrollable. But since I was the one at fault, I decided to let you by on the outside. However, you dove to the inside together with me; I was just about to move back to the outside, but you had already caught me. You attacked too eagerly — I didn't have time to understand what you wanted, and you didn't have time to understand what I was doing.»
#69 Wild Slick – 13th place.
«No luck, damn it. An hour before the race I got a letter from my ISP about possible connection outages; I hoped I'd get away with it.. but no — a disconnect happened. Still, I had my fun. I hope I didn't get in anyone's way in the race.»
#24 Eugene Mozgunov (Butt-head) – 14th place.
«The race wasn't all that difficult, considering the number of cautions we had. The biggest disappointment was #46 Pab, who couldn't decide whether he was supposed to pass anyone or not. Along the way I kept collecting black flags. And near the end #72 Lulukov decided to take me out under caution.
Was he perhaps counting on winning the race under yellow?»
#36 Eugeny Dmitriev – 15th place.
«Mad, you're an experienced driver, and you yourself said the car being passed should hold its line — so on the exit I went to the inside. You shouldn't have gone down there even to let me by; you should have just kept driving your line. To me, at that moment, it looked like a block.»
#23 Alexandr Chistov – 17th place.
«I only ran a few laps in the race (up to the first caution, to be exact) and then quit.
Firstly, the next day I had to get up early to take part in a real karting race.
And secondly, Martinsville promised a great number of wrecks and cautions, and frankly, after California I was sick to death of that sort of thing.»

Когда архитектору придумавшему и воплотившему трек в Мартинсвиле предложили взяться за работу. Он не ломал долго голову над тем, какую конфигурацию придать поворотам и насколько длинными сделать прямые. Хитро ухмыльнувшись, он извлёк из картонной коробочки скрепку, положил её на чистый лист бумаги и, обрисовав её карандашом, решил, что именно такого трека достоин славный город Мартинсвиль. Аминь.

Будущий победитель гонки долго находился в тени своих соперников. И даже когда ему удалось возглавить гонку на один круг под ЖФ, некоторые из его соперников, даже не обратили на это внимание. Однако, преодолев 220-ть кругов (не малая часть которых прошла за пейскаром) кое-кто осознал, что Тик задумал. Когда же, он свою задумку воплотил в блестящую победу. COT-то понял, что далеко ни он один, обладает острым умом и сообразительностью.

#74 Tik – 1 место.
«На старте вылетела 3-я передача, и на рестартах приходилось нелегко.
Ехал, экономя резину, ждал лонг ранов. Так их не дождался. Редко заезжал на пит. Если вдруг оказывался за #98 Johny, так это просто ужас. Постоянно блокировал. Вот со всеми нормально боролись, кроме него. Еле- еле его прошёл. Потом в конце гонки прорвался на 2-е место. Все поехали на пит, включая Лича (#33 Alexander Schokin), я не стал, хотя левая передняя покрышка была сильно стёрта, приходилось блокировать резину, чтобы не попасть в аварию.
... Лич в конце гонки сильно давил на свежих шинах, хорошо что на последних 10-ти кругах можно блоки ставить, иначе не видать мне было победы. После гонки посмотрел, сколько Лич заезжал раз, на пит, оказывается 9-ть раз, а я только 4.»
#113 Sergey Anti – 4 место.
«Супер гонка. Почему-то трудно было вначале держать темп, который был на практике, но к середине раскатался до 20,7 секунд. Понравилась борьба с #98 Johny, он устроил такой паровозик, все в него упирались и теряли позиции, я просек, что обогнать его можно только по инсайду, полез, не знаю, может я, и виноват был, но три ряда наш поезд не выдержал. Да, и борьба была иногда жесткая с касаниями борт о борт.
Жаль в конце поехал на пит починиться и на рестарте хотел Johny пройти сразу, чтоб потом не застрять, а у него оказывается передача вылетела. В общем, благодаря этому, #74 Tik оторвался и не пустил на финише Лича (#33 Alexander Schokin).
У меня же уже был поврежден двигатель, и я просто докатывался, наблюдая за их сражением. Море фана, всем спасибо.»
#5 RacerX - 6 место.
"В первой половине гонки получил BF, отбыть который, оказалось не просто из-за ЖФ. Только заеду на питлейн, сразу ЖФ, BF под ЖФ не снимают, круг потерян. Затем, отбыв stop & go, просто доезжал до финиша, контролируя свой отрыв от преследователей."
#01 Oliver Driver – 7 место.
"Гонка проходила вобщем-то по плану, который заключался в том, чтобы пропускать абсолютно всех и ждать, когда все быстронахи сами поубиваются т.к. не удалось подобрать настроек, обеспечивающих быструю и при том стабильную езду. Разочаровала только собственная скорость немного и то, что при смене резины отстал на круг. Также получил кучу штрафов за неправильный выезд т.к. не мог долго понять, за что меня собственно штрафуют. Но когда всё это утряслось выяснилось, что потерял я вобщем-то не много, т.к. основные конкуренты, видимо тоже попались на этом. Решил больше не связываться с питстопом. Могеду удалось проскочить и отыграть круг т.к. я был медленнее и пейс-кар выехал между. Когда он пошёл в последнюю атаку, то видимо думал, что я шарахнусь от него, но не тут-то было. Терять-то было в общем-то уже нечего."
#13 Edd Mogilevich(Moged) – 8 место.
Сет был небыстрый, но стабильный (что не помешало словить пару спинов при попытке поэкспериментировать) и хорошо себя вел на первых кругах после рестарта.
Все шло ничего пока куда-то не пропал паб и мне не дали БФ, потом еще 2 БФ пока я не допёр, как выезжать из питов. 8 кругов отставания и без шансов отыграться
#46 Pab – 9 место.
Кривые руки + неудачный сет + неожиданно хлипкий субботний инет. Первую половину гонки удавалось ускользать от Лича(#33 Alexander Schokin), даже приноровился к сложному питу без потери круга, но вечно с моей скоростью это продолжаться, не могло. Цифра - 1L появилась, почти одновременно с дисконнектом. Выехал я на трассу с отставанием в 12-ть кругов. Дальше уже доезжал. Единственный отрадный факт, что заповедь "не убий ближнего" выполнил на 100%.
#229 Dima Andreev – 10 место.
«Сорри, всем кому помешал. Сложная для меня трасса. Под конец вроде вкатился и такая досадная ошибка. Паб, сорри за помятый зад.»
#95 Alex madlopt – 11 место.
«Двигатель умер при заезде на пит.
Женя Дмитриев, я с тобой столкнулся, заблокировав тормоза, ничего не мог сделать, машина стала неуправляемой, но потому раз я провинился, решил тебя пропустить на аутсайде. Однако, ты полез на инсайд вместе со мной, я перестроился, было на аутсайд, но ты меня уже догнал. Слишком резво ты атаковал, я не успел понять, что ты хочешь, а ты не успел понять, что делаю я.»
#69 Wild Slick – 13 место.
«Не везёт зараза. За час до гонки получил письмо от провайдера о возможных перебоях связи, думал пронесёт.. но нет – случился дискон. Но Фан получил. Надеюсь, некому не помешал в гонке.»
#24 Eugene Mozgunov (Butt-head) – 14 место.
«Гонка была не очень сложной, учитывая то количество ЖФ, которое было. Больше всего разочаровал #46 Pab, который не знал обгонять ему кого или нет. Походу гонки я получал чёрные флаги. И под конец #72 Lulukov решил меня выбить под ЖФ.
Возможно, он рассчитывал выиграть гонку под ЖФ?»
#36 Eugeny Dmitriev – 15 место.
«Мад, ты же опытный пилот, и сам говорил, обгоняемый должен оставаться на своем месте, вот я и на выходе пошел внутрь, не надо было лезть тебе ту даже, чтобы пропустить, ехал бы как ехал, для меня это выглядело как блокировка в тот момент.»
#23 Alexandr Chistov – 17 место.
«В гонке я проехал всего несколько кругов (до первого ЖФ если быть точным), и вышел.
Во- первых, на следующий день мне надо было рано вставать для участия в реальной картинговой гонки.
И, во вторых, Мартинсвиль предполагал большое количество аварий и ЖФ, что подобное мне после Калифорнии откровенно говоря осточертело.»
